SCRIP
With the tight economic conditions, we’re all doing what we can to help support St. Patrick’s. But did you know that you able to contribute to the financial health of St. Pat’s with NO additional monies out of your pocket? How? Through the use of Scrip!
In simplest terms, Scrip is a gift card. It works just like one—you pay the face value of the card, and in return, you receive that amount in product/services.
How does it work?
When purchasing goods/services of the Scrip retailer, simply use the card you received when you made payment. It works just as cash, with balances remaining on the card to be used the next time you make a purchase.
Must I wait?
Yes and no. For your convenience, St. Pat’s carries a stock of Scrip cards for a number of local businesses. You are able to purchase these for immediate use. If you purchase Scrip for a participating retailer for which we do not carry stock, you will have your Scrip card the following week. Please see the order form for the listing of those vendors whose cards we keep in stock. A full listing of all Scrip retailers is provided at www.glscrip.com.
Where do I get it?
Scrip is sold at the back of church after every 1st and 3rd mass, and during the week, it is available at the rectory. School families are able to purchase Scrip through the school office during the school year. (Details provided once school starts.)
Encourage your family and friends to purchase Scrip! Scrip does not cost you anything!
Scrip for tuition!
One half of the Scrip proceeds can be applied towards tuition when purchasing Scrip. Simply write in the name of the school family whose account the funds should be credited. Invite your family and friends to purchase Scrip in your name!
How does St. Pat’s make money?
We receive a percentage of the face value of the card. These percentages vary by retailer and are listed on the Scrip website.
Consider this: If each week your family purchases $100 of Scrip for groceries [Sentry (3%), Piggly Wiggly (3%), Wal-Mart (2%)], St. Pat’s will earn $104 - $156! Now, imagine 200 parish families doing this—we’d earn $20,800 - $31,200! And that’s just groceries alone! How about gasoline? If 200 families spend $40 per week on Scrip cards for gas (which varies from 1.5% to 3%), we’d make an additional $6,240 - $12,480!
The bottom line is this—when we all work together to make the Scrip program successful, we all work towards the financial health of our parish. Every purchase—no matter how small—adds up.
